Department of Mathematics and Computer Science
Our Mathematics and Computer Science Department is one of the four firstly opened departments and it is included in the Faculty of Art and Sciences, one of the first faculties of Arel University, which began its academic education in the 2007-2008 Academic year. Mathematics is a discipline, developing conceptual skills and forming a basis for all positive sciences and when it is carried out by computer, Mathematics become flesh and blood. Students of Mathematics and Computer Science attend preparation classes and accomplish their bachelor’s degree within the frame of English curriculum as it is applied in some departments of our university.
Nowadays, the computer technology is growing rapidly and it serves widely in all fields of daily life. The literacy of mathematics and computer, becoming the most important factor in basic periods of our industry, makes the need of high quality graduates a current issue. It is a widely known truth that the mathematicians are very successful in the field of software. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science will meet the need of qualified labor force, educated in the field of software. The computer subjects such as; data structures and algorithms, logic circuits, programming languages, databases, operating systems, web designing and file systems take place with the mathematical subjects such as; analysis, algebra, functions theory, differential equations, number theory and discrete mathematics, in the program of the department, aiming to graduate students equipped with the computer skills as well as the strong mathematical skills. In the first three years, the mathematical subjects and computer subjects are given equally in our department and the education takes place in smart classes, equipped with the latest models of computer technology. By this way, the opportunity of learning and practicing the latest technology is supplied for students. Also the lecturers of our department meet the need of mathematics services of other faculties, such as Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, and Faculty of Engineering and Architecture.
In our department, we have the quota for students having 50% or 100% scholarship. Also, in case of the occurrence of the parallel programs, the opportunity of Double Major and Subspecialty in some engineering departments and some other departments is supplied. On the other hand, not only the mathematics and computer education is given to the students, but also it is heavily focused on to graduate students, accepting the cultural values of our country, respectful to the universal environment and humanity values and socially skilled. By this aim, social and cultural intensive courses and attractions take place in our program. A lot of electives in the last two years of education enable our students to become specialized as a mathematician supported by computer and as a computer operator supported by mathematics.
Besides our graduates can be active in software, computer, finance and informatics firms and data processing centre of all companies, also they can be active in these companies’ area of expertise, such as project management, project development, programming, system analysis and web design. In addition to these, our graduates who can work in optimization, sourcing and planning units, where the mathematics and analysis base is important, can work as an expert, manager and researcher in insurance sector and in companies related to Stock Market and Stock Exchange.
