The Department of Industrial Product Design is the struggle for converting the changing needs to economic and creative products. Development of the products frequently seen in daily life bought by electing many options, useful and taking environment and quality of life into consideration, occurs by the help of industrial designers. The creative and innovative solutions developed by the designers have an important role in transmuting the products from electric appliances to storage boxes and cookers used in houses, mobile phones to watches we carry, office systems to lightening elements used in workplaces, urban furniture to transportation vehicles into products that we prefer and that make our lives easier and enrich our experiences.
Industrial designer, contributes to many stages including recognition of needs, converting the needs into new products or reflecting some small changes on existing products, evaluating the products after their expiration; takes care of both the anxieties of the producer company such as production resources, cost, market share and target market, and the needs such as cultural values of the users, aesthetic taste, ease of use and security during the designing period.
The aim of the Industrial Design is to produce creative solutions for industrial world we live in and needs of the people who will consume it. For this reason, designing; is a method, philosophy, technique, rule, development and art of life related to needs and wishes of the users. Products exist as a heritage on which the history of traditions comes together.
Creativity and visualization of ideas have an important role in the education of Industrial Designing. Development of creative ideas points the period that there is not only one correct solution, it is possible to find different solutions; in this period general knowledge, research and observation, designing methods and visualization skills have an important role. In designing period, free-hand drawing, technical drawing, three dimensional modeling, computer assisted modeling are intensively used visualization tools. It is compulsory to students that they have to do summer internship in production units and professional designing offices to improve their vocational knowledge and professional skills. In addition to this, the students in graduation year work on the projects carried out with the industrial firms.
