PLENARY SPEAKERS Prof. Dr. Özcan DEMİREL – Hacettepe University Prof. Dr. Özcan Demirel was born on the 1st of March in 1943 at Sapanca, Adapazarı in Turkey. He graduated from Ankara - Gazi Teacher Training College, Department of English Language Teaching in 1964 and was awarded his PhD degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 1979. He has been working at Hacettepe University for 35 years. He has worked as an English Instructor at Prep. School for ten years and has acted as the founder head of the Department of English Language Teaching for five years. At present, He has been working at the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the Faculty of Education. Prof. Demirel is the author of 20 books on Education and the co-author of 15 books on English and English Language Teaching. He also presented 90 papers and published 80 articles on curriculum development, teacher education and English language teaching. He has supervised approximately 100 PhD and MA theses on Curriculum Development and Teaching English as a Foreign Language so far. He worked in different educational projects of the World Bank, UNESCO; UNICEF, European Union and the Council of Europe. Paul SELIGSON – Oxford University Press Paul Seligson has been TEFLing since 1978, over 28 years which means he would be retired by now if he were Turkish! An MATEFL, CELTA assessor and LCCI examiner, he has written and edited many books and articles, including English File and New English File (both for Oxford University Press). He has taught, trained and given talks in about 30 countries and this is his 24th visit to Turkey. Needless to say he is delighted to be back! He works from Brighton as a freelance trainer. Susan DAVIES - MSc, BEd, DipTEFL – City & Guilds Susan Davies has been working for many years as an English language teacher, teacher trainer and trainer trainer, with wide experience in different countries. Over the last ten years, she has specialised in the development of English language tests and teacher training in testing. Tom GODFREY - Cambridge University Press Tom Godfrey has worked as an EFL teacher and teacher trainer in a variety of countries. He is Director of International Training Institute (ITI) which is a centre for teacher training and development and an ELT consultancy. He currently runs teacher-training courses leading to the Cambridge TKT, CELTA, CELTYL, ICELT and DELTA qualifications. He is an ELT consultant specialising in Curriculum Design and Teacher Education. He is studying for his Ed.D at Exeter University, UK. He is the founder of Speech Bubbles Theatre Group who perform musicals to raise money for charities that support education and children in Turkey. Email: tom@iti-istanbul.com Kristina SMITH - Pearson Longman Kristina Smith works as a teacher trainer for Pearson Longman. She has been teaching and training in Turkey and the T.R.N.C. for more than 20 years. Most of her experience is in language schools and university prep classes. She worked as a teacher and trainer at Bilkent University Preparatory Program over a nine-year period and ran the training group at Istanbul Bilgi University for two years before joining Pearson Longman. She is an experienced ICELT and DELTA trainer. In the f2f classroom, she is interested in different ways of motivating and involving students of different skill levels in the learning process. These days, she is heavily involved in all aspects of online learning and training. The possibilities of Web2.0 fascinate her. Rod WEBB - Garnet Education Rod Webb is the research and training manager for Garnet Education. In this role, he is heavily involved in maintaining the educational credibility of the Garnet Products. This work ranges from consultation on syllabus design to actual writing. An example of writing involvement was the TASK series of study Skills material produced by Garnet Education. Prior to working in publishing, he was engaged in teacher training support, working for Garnet Publishing within ministries of education throughout several countries.
